MAKR named Global Finalist in SEMI S3 program for Sustainable Semiconductor Innovation

PHOENIX, ARIZONA – MAKR Microsystems, a leader in subsurface nanoscale metrology, has been shortlisted for the SEMI Startups for Sustainable Semiconductors (S3) program. Chosen as one of only 40 startups worldwide, MAKR will present its breakthrough Acoustic Atomic Force Microscopy (A-AFM) technology to a council of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers and venture investors.

The S3 Sustainability Mission

The SEMI S3 program is dedicated to accelerating the semiconductor industry’s transition to sustainable manufacturing. By focusing on "Sustainability through Innovation," the program connects startups with the industry’s most influential Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) firms. MAKR’s selection highlights the critical role that advanced metrology plays in sustainability: by identifying subsurface defects at the nanoscale, MAKR helps reduce the energy and raw materials wasted on defective silicon.

Closing the Subsurface Gap

As chip designs move toward complex 3D structures like GAA-FET and advanced packaging, the "subsurface gap" has become a critical bottleneck. Standard metrology tools often fail to detect voids or misalignments buried beneath layers of material. MAKR’s Acoustic Atomic Force Microscopy (A-AFM) closes this gap by combining the extreme resolution of AFM with acoustic sensing, allowing for the inspection of internal architectures without destroying the wafer. This "Acoustic Sonar" for the atomic scale provides the high-fidelity data required to optimize yield in the most advanced 3D nodes.

About MAKR

MAKR is a semiconductor metrology company based in India, dedicated to the science of subsurface precision. By pioneering Acoustic Atomic Force Microscopy, MAKR provides the industry with the "eyes" needed to inspect the internal structures of sub-5nm chips. MAKR’s mission is to ensure that the atomic-scale innovations of the future are not only precise but sustainable.
